Privacy Policy

We want DD+ to feel like a paper you trust, not a stranger pulling your pockets out. This page explains what The Daily Dose Plus ("DD+", "we", "us") collects, why, who helps us, and what you can do about it.
1. Who this applies to
This policy covers the DD+ website, mobile app, newsletter, shop, podcasts, and related features.
Plain versionAnyone who uses any part of DD+ — site visitors, subscribers, account holders, shoppers, contributors.
2. What we collect
Depending on how you use DD+, we may collect:
- Account info: your email, display name, avatar, and (if you sign in with Google) the basic profile Google shares with us.
- Newsletter info: your email address, the topics you chose, and when you confirmed.
- Orders: name, delivery address, phone number, the items you bought, and the Wave payment reference. We do not see or store your card or bank details — those stay with Wave.
- Reading and listening activity: articles you bookmark, read, or rate; episodes you play; tip jar clicks. This is used to power your account pages and our internal stats.
- Contributor applications: name, email, location, pitch, writing samples, socials, and whether you accepted the Writer Contributor Terms.
- Device and log data: IP address, browser, OS, pages visited, and timestamps — standard server logs to keep DD+ safe and working.
- Anything you send us: emails, comments, reviews, support messages.
Plain versionThe least we can to make DD+ work — and only what you actually give us or what your browser sends.
3. Why we collect it
- To run your account and let you bookmark, save, rate, and review articles.
- To send the newsletter and notifications you've opted in to.
- To process orders and follow up if there's a problem.
- To review contributor pitches and let you write for us.
- To improve DD+ and understand which stories and shows resonate.
- To protect the site from abuse, fraud, and outages.
- To meet our legal and tax obligations.
Plain versionTo run DD+, send you what you signed up for, take orders, and keep things safe.
4. Who helps us run DD+
To run DD+ we rely on a few service providers:
- Lovable Cloud (backend hosting, database, storage, auth). Hosts the site, your account, and our content.
- Google. Sign in with Google for account creation; Google Cloud Text-to-Speech for the AI narration on articles.
- Wave. Handles payments for merch orders. Card and bank details go to Wave, not to us.
- Email delivery providers. Send the newsletter, order confirmations, and account emails.
- Hosting and CDN providers. Deliver the site quickly and reliably.
We share the minimum information each provider needs to do its job. We don't sell your personal data, and we don't share it for ad targeting.
Plain versionA short list of trusted services. We don't sell your data.
6. How long we keep things
- Account data: until you delete your account.
- Newsletter data: until you unsubscribe (then we keep your email on a suppression list so we don't accidentally re-add you).
- Orders: as long as needed for tax, accounting, and customer support.
- Server logs: typically a few weeks to a few months.
- Contributor applications: as long as we may want to follow up with you.
Plain versionAs long as your account is active, or as long as we need to for the reason we collected it.
7. Your rights and choices
You can:
- Update your profile and email preferences from your account page.
- Unsubscribe from any email via the unsubscribe link at the bottom of it.
- Delete your account from your account settings, or by emailing us.
- Ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold on you, or to correct or delete it.
To do any of the above, email thedailydosegm@gmail.com. We'll respond as quickly as we can.
Plain versionYou can ask to see, fix, or delete what we have on you. You can unsubscribe any time.
8. Children
If you believe a child has given us personal information, email us and we'll delete it.
Plain versionDD+ isn't designed for children under 13. We don't knowingly collect data from them.
9. Where your data lives
Our hosting, email delivery, and Google services may process your data outside The Gambia. Where they do, we rely on the privacy and security commitments those providers publish.
Plain versionDD+ is hosted in the cloud. Some of our service providers may store data outside The Gambia.
10. How we protect your data
DD+ runs over HTTPS. Passwords are stored hashed by our auth provider. Sensitive actions (admin work, account changes) require sign-in. No service is 100% secure, but we treat your data carefully and review our setup regularly.
Plain versionEncrypted in transit, access-controlled, and only the people who need it can see it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top tells you when it last changed. If we make a significant change, we'll let account holders know.
12. Contact
For any privacy question, data request, or complaint, email thedailydosegm@gmail.com.
These terms are governed by the laws of The Republic of The Gambia.
