Writer Contributor Terms

Last updated: 26 June 2026

Please read these terms before submitting your work. By submitting a piece to The Daily Dose Plus, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to these terms.

In short

You wrote it, so you own it. We'd love permission to publish and share it. You can publish it elsewhere too, after 30 days. Contributions are currently unpaid. Be honest, be original, and we'll treat your work with respect. The plain-language summaries below each section are there to help — the full text is what applies.

1. Who these terms are for

These terms apply to anyone who submits writing ("a piece" or "your work") to The Daily Dose Plus ("DD+", "we", "us") to be considered for publication. When you submit a piece, you are agreeing to these terms.

You confirm that you are at least 18 years old, or that you have permission from a parent or guardian to contribute.

Plain versionIf you're sending us writing to publish, these terms apply to you.

2. You own your work

You keep full ownership and copyright of anything you write for us. Submitting a piece does not give us ownership of it. It stays yours.

Plain versionYour writing belongs to you. We don't take it from you.

3. The permission you give us

By submitting your work, you give DD+ permission to publish, edit (see Section 5), and share it across our platforms and channels. This includes:

  • our website and mobile app,
  • our newsletter and emails,
  • our social media accounts (including short excerpts to promote the piece),
  • audio versions of articles (we may use text-to-speech narration so people can listen to articles).

This permission has no time limit and is granted free of charge, but it does not transfer ownership — you still own the work (Section 2). We will always credit you as the author.

Plain versionYou let us publish your piece and promote it wherever DD+ lives — site, app, newsletter, social media, and as audio. You still own it; we just have your permission to share it, and we'll always put your name on it.

4. Publishing elsewhere (the 30-day window)

For the first 30 days after we publish your piece, please keep it exclusive to DD+ — don't publish the same piece on other websites or platforms during that window.

After 30 days, you are free to republish it anywhere you like. When you do, please credit DD+ as the original publisher — for example: "Originally published by The Daily Dose Plus."

Plain versionGive us a 30-day head start where the piece only appears on DD+. After that, publish it wherever you want — just mention it appeared on DD+ first.

5. Editing and editorial control

We may edit your piece for clarity, length, grammar, and style. For any major changes to your meaning or argument, we'll try to run them by you before publishing.

Submitting a piece does not guarantee it will be published. We may decline, delay, or remove any submission at our discretion, including after publication.

Plain versionWe'll tidy up your writing, and check with you before making big changes. Sending us a piece doesn't guarantee we'll publish it.

6. Your promises about the work

When you submit a piece, you confirm that:

  • It's yours and it's original. You wrote it. It is not copied or plagiarised from anyone else.
  • It doesn't infringe anyone's rights. It doesn't breach someone else's copyright, and any images, quotes, or data you include are ones you have the right to use.
  • It's truthful and fair. To the best of your knowledge, what you've written is accurate, and it is not defamatory (it doesn't make false statements that harm someone's reputation).
  • You've disclosed any conflicts. If you have a personal or financial interest in what you're writing about, you've told us.

If a piece you submit turns out to breach these promises and causes a problem for DD+, you are responsible for that piece — not us.

Plain versionPromise us the work is your own, that it doesn't steal from or wrongly harm anyone, and that it's honest. If you break that promise and it causes trouble, that's on you, not DD+.

7. Payment

Contributions to DD+ are currently unpaid. By submitting, you understand that you are not entitled to payment for your work unless we have agreed otherwise with you in writing, in advance.

If this changes in the future, any paid arrangement will be agreed separately and in writing.

Plain versionRight now, writing for DD+ is unpaid, unless we've specifically agreed to pay you in writing beforehand.

8. Conduct

We're building something for the Gambian community, and we ask contributors to write in good faith: be honest, fact-check your work, respect people, and follow any writer guidelines we share with you. We may decline to work with anyone who doesn't.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make significant changes, we'll update the date at the top, and the terms in force when you submit a piece are the ones that apply to that submission.

10. Ending the relationship

Either of us can stop the contributor relationship at any time. If you ask us to remove a piece you wrote, we'll do our best to honour that, though we may keep records of what was published. Permission you've already given us to use a published piece (Section 3) continues for pieces already published, unless we agree otherwise.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of The Republic of The Gambia.
